Eye exams at the Minnesota Eye Institute in Alexandria MN
We perform complete, full-service, and comprehensive eye examinations for our patients. A typical exam takes about 20 minutes. We recommend regular eye exams so if any problems are forming they can be detected early on.
Part of a typical eye exam includes dilation of your pupils. Dilation is important because it allows us to view the internal structures of the eye and obtain the most accurate amount of refractive error (nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism), and to better judge the overall health of your eye. There is no pain involved with dilation but the spray or drops might sting slightly. Afterwards, you might experience blurred vision and light sensitivity for several hours. Dilation usually lasts approximately 4 to 6 hours. Caution should be taken with driving. We recommend bringing along a driver and a dark pair of sunglasses.
Who should have an eye exam?
We recommend that everyone over age 50 should be seen by an ophthalmologist. Many patients come to us referred by optometrists as we offer some services not offered by optometrists such as treatment for various eye diseases and eye surgery to correct vision problems.
